Serbia’s communists pick Josip Broz as leader
Delegates from communist and communist leaning parties in Serbia have elected Josip Joska Broz as their united political party leader.
Josip Joska Broz or JJ Broz is the grandson of an ethnic Croatian communist dictator Josip Broz Tito who ruled Yugoslavia after dethroning the western leaning King Peter Karadjordjevic in a bloody WWII power struggle.

JJ Broz says that the newly constituted communist party will be a “modern” party that will seek EU integration and a closure to privatization in Serbia.
“As a difference with the once Communist Party, whose members had to be atheists, our party will respect the freedom of religion for our members,” Broz said.
JJ Broz entered politics in 2003 as a leader of the coalition called Workers’ Future of Serbia comprised of Workers Party of Yugoslavia, Ecological Party of Vojvodina, Serbian National Socialist Party of Workers, Unemployed, Pensioners and Peasants and the Yugoslav Party of Good Will.
“Communist Party is open to accept additional 14 small parties with communist prefix across the country,” said JJ Broz.
JJ Broz’s father is Zarko, Tito’s oldest son.
Over 20 years ago, JJ Broz stood trial for shooting at 3 individuals and wounding a woman.
“Then I was shooting at known Belgrade criminals… because they attacked my friend. The bullet ricochet and hit another woman in her foot,” says JJ Broz.
JJ Broz is confident that by January, the coalition will secure 10,000 signatures in order to register the new party.
“Our aim is the 10% from the 60% of the undecided voters in Serbia,” says JJ Broz.
The new Communist Party has representatives in the city councils of Novi Sad, Zrenjanin and Vrbas.

I applaud Josip Joska Broz his decesion to form a New Communist Party. It is great idea, I whish success.It is great idea. Yes , Josip Joska Broz is the grandson of Josip Broz Tito. Right. Josip Broz Tito was not dictator. Do you live in SFRJ? Who is dictator or democrat in your opinion. Are this democrats-during the 78 day bombing of the Federal Republic Yugoslavia [US/Nato] they who specifically target schools, hospitals, farms, bridges, roads, railway,water lines, communicatians facilities, factories, industries and other objects. They call oneself democrats, with big”D”. I ask again if is Tito dictator these are what?

@Svetlana and @Vukasin – I can see both view points, I don’t know if it Broz is the way to go in correcting the economical and social screwups that US/NATO and the rest of history’s hang-ups have caused. I support Nationalistic ideology. I do not want to see EU in Srbija. But I’m still not sure Broz or Communism is the right way to do it.
@Vukasin – It’s always about the support of Communism with some of the Srbs. Some prefer it, because that’s what they know. Some prefer it because it’s better than what’s going on there in Srbija now and better than US/NATO/EU bullshit there too. To some it’s the only right path of anything.. Everyone has their reasons to choosing Communism over other view points.

His grandson is probably OK to be a leader of local communist party. In democratic system communist are acceptable in contrast to their past regime who did not tolerate any other party.
Josip Broz was never friend of Serbia; he created Autonomna Pokrajina Vojvodina and Kosovo i Metohija. Obviously to divide and weaken Serbia.
We all know what happened to Kosovo and now there are news that “minorities” are vocal in Vojvodina.
One wanders for example why Tito did not create autonomna pokrajina Dalmacija or Zagorje or Slavonija? Obviously he did not want to do that.
Also why is his grave in Belgrade? Send the remains to Kumrovec where they belong.

Did you live in Communism, in Yugoslavia during 1960/1970 .It was better life for pupils , students, for all people. @Svetlana, I dont support Communism only because of the hisotrial facts. HOWEVER I absoulutly do not support the West or any Pro-West idiology. The reason being is the west( mainly Britain), supported Tito and his communists into Serbia in the first place ( by bombing us and supplying them). Not to mention what they did during 1991-1999 to us. The point being I dont support nither, because they are the same to me, they are buddys. You could not openly practice your religion if you were Orthodox but if you were Catholic or Muslim you could. Why is that? I remember being discriminated against and told I was not going to get a visa to enter Yugoslavia because I went to the wrong church here in Australia. At the same time the Croats could openly to go churches which had Ante Pavelic photo in their churches and they were never stopped from going back but Serbs were if they went to a church which had Mihailovic. Talk about discrimination. Now that was Tito’s way.
I hope that my las post goes through. Every time I try to tell this story, which I know is true because it happened to me, it does not go through. It is not racist or vulgar or has any bad language in it. It only tells how I was discriminated by Tito’s lot. I wonder why Serbianna does not let it go through.

With all due respect to all that posted comments here, I was born, brouth up and educated in SFRY and from the early age I do remmember that our house was never locked, we could travel to all parts of Yugoslavia without the problems, to all the world as a metter of fact, education was good and free for all children, and we did celebrate all religeous holidays without the problems. Also one can save for a car and bay it for cash(my parents did, so I know) and the crime rate was low, ther was no drugs problem etc. The shiptars were quiet, and all those who did not like the “rezim” were abroad (USA, Australia etc.) and they returned in thebeg. of 90 long after Titi was dead. We did not que for nothing until early 80 and all problem started after Titi died.Personaly, I do not agree with any political sistem so far, the one I do agree the most is it type of Socialisam that is applied in Sveden , becouse the human nation as it is it is not ready yet to exept that we all are equal, have the same need etc. People are just to selfish and gready to exept equality and until that is the fact we will be opresed by our own greed etc. I feel that lots of people here are born after Tito (who was wrong in a lots of ways by the way) and they do not remember the “old Yugoslavia”. Personaly, I am not sorry to see it go, since I am aware of the fact that Serbian people suffer more than any other i Yugoslavia in the name of “bratstvo-jedinstvo”, 8 members of my family died in Jasenovac, my other relatives where forsed to leave for Bulgaria becouse of Infor-biro etc. but the fact is that we did have a peace and freedom.
Socialism is good as long as someone else is willing to fund it. That was the case of Tito’s Yugoslavia which lived on western loans and donations in order to keep it against Soveiets.
SO, it was a “good life” because Yugoslavia produced nothing of any quality but lived as though it did… until communists could no longer extort money from the western banks to maintain the lifestyle.
Sane Serbian leadership should have been the first one to break up that illusionary union. Instead, they stood defending it.

I was born in SFRJ [in Serbia]. Grew up, and educated in SFRJ,education was free for pupils and students. I say again You right Dragana. Our house was never locked, we could travel to all part of Tito’s Yugoslavia without problems. In early age my family and me lived in small city in Montenegro-Crna Gora . Citizens were ortodox’ and muslims. Half-Ortodox’ ,half Muslims.We lived without the problems.Women ortodox and muslim went in church and mosque often together. It were communist’s Yugoslavia.We could celebrate all religious holidays and krsne slave without problems.
Pupils in Tito’s Yugoslavia visited many monasteries without the problems. It were “school trips”.
I always lived in Yugoslavia, now live in Belgrade, but in my opinion life in Yugoslavia “old Yugoslavia” was better.
I wiil not say Tito’s Yugoslavia was perfect. All society around the world are not perfect. We all are not perfect.
I think lots of people who born after Tito or were children do not remember Yugoslavia and they listen some persons how teel “very bad” about SFRJ and TITO and Communists.I realize young persons .If they”look” on Iternet most website which tell about communism -tell “very bad” But lots of young people do not realize it is PROPAGANDA they believe it is the TRUTH.

Dragana, how can you say that the Albanians were quiet when they were terrorising Serbs in Kosovo even during Tito time?
Granted, not so obvious but they did enough damage for Serbs to be selling up and moving. If Tito was so great, why did he prevent so many Serbs from returning to Kosovo after WW2 and allowing so many Albnaians to cross the border and settle in Kosovo?
Why did he not bring in Croata’s enemies and settle them into Croatian parts and discourage Croatians from resettling in Croatia?
Why did the Serbs only get treatment like I mentioned in diasporat but Crotians who were openly showing loyalty to Pavelic never got harrassed and thretened with not getting visas from entering Yugoslavia. I can tell you I was never in any organisation here nor meddled in politics but I was bullied twice. So don’t even try to tell me that it’s only these die hard Chetniks who in diaspora who were mistreated by the regime.
There is so much more but you choose not to see how biased Tito was against the Serbs. Proof all around you.

There have been many good points from ALL sides provided in these posts. Everyone has their own view point from their own life experiences. But the fact is that if things were so great under Tito and his Regime of Communistic-Socialism why was there such a massive “Brain Drain” out of Yugoslavia during his rule? Why was there such a scurry to leave Yugoslavia to places with more freedoms such as West Germany, Austria, Australia, Canada, Great Britain and the USA or were more people like the Serbs “Pushed out” by the regime’s policies? Let us also question the sytem of the old Regieme:
Did they have the people independent or dependent on the Government?
Which way is better for a fruitful society a dependent or independent people?
The question is a simple one do the Serbs want to go back to old oppressive and dependency on the government and the oligarchy of rulers or throw off thoses chains of dependency?
Dear Peggy, it was not my intention to critisize your point, ot to glorify Tito. As I say, he was wrong in a lots of ways, but I can tell you that lots of thins were bethere then than today, we did have a peace…..Serbs were always the victims in larger no. then the rest during the wars we had for the centuries, but after WW2 there was a hope that the peace will last and we will go our way. Unfortunately, the others couldn’t leave us alone, perhaps the more important thing is how much they hate us rather then how much they love themselfs hence break-up og SFRY and the rest….Albanians are different story, where Enver Hodga was still alive, they have been our enemies mostly on paper, those who cross the border and went to Kosovo were escaping (I do agree that they broth us all trouble we didn’t need) and I know that Shiptars were dreaming about Great Albania even then, but they couldn’t openly do what they started after Tito died. I already said that I don’t feel sorry for SFRY not existing anylonger, but the pion was that there is still no political system that it can work perfectly becoue the people are just to corupted by sex,power,money, gready, selfish etc.Just look at this recesion now, it is direct product of those rich being still hungry for more…. It will take a long time for the human nation to learn from they mistakes and to exept that we are all equal. The closer we(Serbia)got to some sort of peace and the fredom was a long time ago….Just look at new politicians in Serbia, do I need to go on and on? People voted with their wallets. Those who were capable left, and left behind them all the leaches and blood sucking communist scum to suffocate in their own vomit of debt and plunder.
Remember, all communists did after WWII was, first to plunder private property by nationalizing, so after they wasted that, Tito levereged the Soviets to get Western subsidies, and after that was wasted the country went to hell because there was no one left to plunder.
What was left is these so-called nationalists who went to plunder each other acting as though patriots. Look at all these warlords in Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo: they made sure they had truck to howl off the plunder… Albanians even set up medial houses to pull out and sell Serbian organs… and that is the legacy of communists.

What I am getting from your post is that you are very much in favour of a system which compells people to conform to it. That is called dictatorship which I can never approve of. Yes, many people were quit during Tito time but they still hated us and they waited for a chance to stirr up trouble, kills us, cleanse us from our land and take over.
Getting back to an oppressive system is not an answer. No opressive system can last and we will only be repeating this madness once more in a few decades.
You probably won’t belive this but I too think that things were much better in Yugoslavia in many other ways. Health care was free, education was free, most people did not go hungry etc. and I would love that system to come back but not the politically opressive one where people hate you but cannot tell you only to show it it other ways.
Albanians in Kosovo were terrorising Serbs even during Tito’s time but in more subtle ways. They also were more bold in terrorising our kids on the way to schools but nobody dared to talk about it. Nobody dared to do anything about it. If you stood up for yourself and you were a Serb there you would be called a nationalist not the Albanian.
I was christened in secrecy and we never celebrated Orthodox Easter while I remember seeing colourful eggs for Catholic one. Catholics and Muslims had their religious days in freedom. I do remember hearing about Ramadan but never about Orthodox Christmas. Why do you think that was?

That certainly did not happen in Sarajevo, I can assure you of that.
Like I said. I never heard of Orthodox Christmas or Easter there but have experience Catholic one and have heard Muslims speaking of their Ramadam.
I was even christened in secret and when we came to Australia and I recieved my first Christmas present was the very first time I had heard of Orthodox Christmas.
I am not lying here. Maybe other parts of Yugoslavia were not as oppresive to Serbs. I have relatives in Belgrade and they never spoke about anything Orthodox eather.

I tell about muy experience during 1960/1970 and later.
Communists are atheist and their oficial attitude was did not celebrated religious holydays.
People celebrated Christmas ,Easter and Slave in their houses.My late grandfather and grandmother [in Sumadija] celebrated Christmas, Easter and Sveti Nikola . When they celebrated Sveti Nikola priest came at their house. It is truth. We childeren always sent via post-office grettings cards for Sveti Nikola. Anybody did not say Why .Who wanted , they could celebrated.
I do not know why your relatives who lived in Belgrade did not, say about Ortodox? It is their decession.
I ask you Did communists destroy Ortodox’ churches in Sarajevo? Communists in Crana Gora in Serbia did not destroy churches. WE in Serbia have old churches .

I don’t think I need a sermon from you if you somehow deducts that I hate communists. I never said I hated communists. Communists are people like anyone else, but people with particular politcal views. I however do no agree with Tito’s dictatorship of Yugoslavia nor do I want his son or anyone who shares his DNA to ever have any say in what goes on in Serbia. Now I stand by my convictions here and I really don’t appreciate you giving me a sermon which you think I should go along with because of it.
